How Does the Epic Ghost Process Work?

We have simplified the entire ghostwriting process down to five simple steps from concept to getting published.

Step 1- The Initial Interview

We will discuss your book idea at length to see if you may have a potential bestseller on your hands.  This 90 minute interview will cover everything from shaping your book ideas to marketing to the possibility of getting a book deal in place before we start the writing process.

It’s also your time to ask plenty of questions and to get a feel for our process.  If we decide to work together, your world-class ghostwriter will be your one point of contact for everything you need.

Step 2- The Dream Getaway

We pull you away from the daily grind and meet up in paradise to capture your story.  You will work with us around six hours each day but it definitely won’t feel like work- we will show you a great time and let your creative juices flow naturally.  Time is rarely an issue if you can give us three to five days.

Whether it’s relaxing in a beachside villa or exploring an incredible new city, you’ll have an unforgettable, life changing experience while we capture your story, find your tone and create a chapter outline.

Step 3- The Writing Process

Your ghostwriter will knock out the bulk of your book on your behalf over the next 6-8 weeks, with weekly updates and progress reports arriving to your inbox.  Occasional 10-15 minute phone calls may be necessary as well just to capture more detail on certain asepcts of your story.

You are also free to be as hands-on or hands-off as you want during this process.  Authors (that’s you!) will need to commit a minimum of 1-3 hours per week in order for us to deliver on time.

Step 4- The Final Polish

Once we have a first draft of the entire book, we will send it to you in order to dial in the finishing touches.  We will ask you to insert notes where appropriate and shoot it back to us for an additional round of edits.  You can do this alone or, if necessary, we can schedule a 2nd meetup.

Our final polish will require an additional 1-2 weeks and your book will then be ready for publication.  We average a ten week turnaround from start to finish.

Step 5- The Book Proposal

Now it’s time to decide what to do with your book- should you self-publish?  Do you shop it to publishing houses and agents to go the traditional route?  We will guide you throughout this exciting process as well.  Our comprehensive pricing even includes writing your book proposal.

You’ll be pleased to know that each of our ghostwriters work for us exclusively and they only handle one project at a time.  That means you’ll have your writer’s undivided attention from the inital interview to delivering a completed manuscript.  Additionally, we have a rather extreme vetting process for our ghostwriters and we literally put them through the ringer before they can earn that Epic Ghost title.

Our average writer has penned at least one bestseller in their own name or for other clients, and they have worked on dozens of successful book projects before arriving at our doorstep.

Our initial interview is a critical part of the ghostwriting process for several reasons.  First, it allows us to pair you with the ideal ghostwriter, and it also helps us ensure that your book will be well received by readers, agents and publicists.  Framing your story, finding unique angles, looking at potential marketing- we do it all right up front.  We will always have your best interests at heart as well, so this conversation will be strictly confidential on our end…whether we end up working together or not.

Believe it or not, we have had multiple bestselling authors call and pitch us just for the feedback alone- even though they had no intention of working with us.  That’s how thorough we are during this evaluation interview.

We start each project with a short work/vacation trip so you can bond with your ghostwriter and share as much of the book’s content as possible.  By getting you out of your element for a couple of days, it allows you to relax and your productivity will soar.  More importantly, it allows your ghost to work with you 1:1 to get your storylines and your voice down pat at the beginning of the process.  This short trip actually saves months of time and frustration down the road. 

As far as destinations go, we can travel anywhere in the world- as long as it’s away from your hometown and the places where work/life/family keeps your mind occupied.  Other than that, we are open to hitting the beaches, the mountains or anywhere in between.

Our actual writing process has been developed from hundreds of successful book projects over the years.  After everyone returns home from the work/vacation, your ghost will knock out the first 2-3 chapters right away to put something in your hands.  Then you’ll be asked to get notes back to the ghost within the next two weeks as they continue to write.  That way, the writer is always well ahead of you and nobody is sitting around waiting.

Additionally, your ghost will likely want to schedule one brief interview each week- usually no more than 15 minutes in length.  This is for getting clarity on certain points, communicating what work will be done the following week and making sure that everyone is on the same page.

Once your ghost has written your entire manuscript, they will then start working through your notes on changes that need to be made.  The process is identical to what you’ve been doing for the past few months, and you’ll receive weekly updates of progress plus new chapters to look at.  During this second run-through, your writer will also perform line edits to clear up any grammar issues and to add a little more polish.

Before the final round of editing, your ghost will ask if you have a few people to share your manuscript with for a peer-review.  We will also have a few industry friends read your book (with your approval) to make suggestions that could improve its chances of success.  Finally, we take all that feedback (including yours) to tie in the finishing touches.

While Epic Ghost does not guarantee that your book will be published, we will do everything in our power to help you achieve that goal.  That means we will be pulling out our rolodex to talk to literary agents, publishing houses and others that can shine a whole lot of light on your amazing story.  We will even call in favors for celebrity endorsements if that’s what it takes to get you to where you want to be.  In other words, you’ll have all of our resources at your disposal as a valued client for life.

Additionally, we will write your proposal letter either before or after the book project, depending on the strategy that works best for you and your goals.  We can discuss this in length during the interview process so you have all the necessary information.

Epic Ghost charges a non-refundable deposit of $500 for the initial 90-minute phone consultation to explore your book ideas and discuss strategy.  If we agree to work together, we will then email you a contract detailing the scope of the project, anticipated timelines and the overall costs- which ranges from $20,000 and up…possibly with a small royalty attached.  We also require a 25% deposit before making travel arrangements to conduct the series of book-related interviews.

Additionally, our prices are all-inclusive which means that there are no hidden costs or shady gimmicks.  Our quotes include everything from conceptualizing to our travel costs to delivering a finished manuscript, plus guiding you the rest of the way.
